Salary: £34576 to £46414 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.
Applications are invited from outstanding candidates for the above post. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute substantially to maintaining and enhancing the Faculty’s high standards in teaching and research. The successful candidate will be required to lead and deliver research (both individual and collaborative) in the broadly defined area of Earth Observation. They will also deliver teaching in one of the key disciplines within the Faculty (Architecture and the Built Environment, Chemical and Environmental, Civil, Electrical and Electronic and/or Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering). The role-holder will be based in the Nottingham Geospatial Institute (NGI), an institute drawing researchers from across the Faculty, and will also be embedded as one of several core academic staff members in the newly-created GeoEnergy Research Centre (GERC).
GERC is a £3m pioneering joint venture co-established by the University of Nottingham (UoN) and the British Geological Survey (BGS), with a multi-disciplinary research focus on topics such as CO2storage, alternative hydrocarbons, and geothermal energy. Both institutes are conveniently located in Nottingham; the NGI based on Jubilee Park campus and BGS at their Keyworth campus (15 minute drive). The person appointed will be offered dual affiliation with the BGS, the benefits of which include full access to all laboratory facilities and analytical instruments. The post holder will be expected to make the most of the extensive collaborative opportunities with other colleagues in GERC across both UoN (Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, and Mathematical Sciences) and BGS.
Candidates should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Earth Observation or a related subject and have a commitment to high-quality teaching in engineering to a broad range of students.
