GRSG Student Awards 2013 – WINNERS ANNOUNCED!

2013 Student Awards

It is our pleasure to announce the 2013 Geological Remote Sensing Group ‘Student Award’ winners.

Not only did we get a record number of applicants this year, but there was also a very high quality of applications from student members both from the UK and overseas. This made it difficult for the committee to make a selection as the differences were very small. However, we found that the following three applications stood out in this year’s competition (in alphabetical order):

– Jennifer Harris (Birkbeck University of London) – “Remote and in-situ reflectance spectroscopy of Mars-analogue hydrothermal alteration”

– Amy Woodget (University of Worcester) – “An assessment of the use of high resolution imagery collected from an unmanned aerial system for the quantification of fluvial topography”

– Yu Zhou (University of Oxford) – “Active faulting and tectonics of the Ordos block in northern China”

Once again, congratulations to the three award winners (GRSG committee, May 2013).

 

Each year the GRSG award up to 3 Student Awards of £750. Further details for the 2014 Student Awards will be announced at the AGM in December 2013.

The GRSG also offer a number of ‘student travel bursaries’ (up to a maximum of £150) available to GRSG student members to attend the AGM in Berlin in December (‘Status and developments in geological remote sensing’, 9-11 December 2013, Berlin, Germany). The student travel bursaries for the AGM are completely independent from the Student Awards and aim to support students to attend and present research via poster or oral presentation to an international academic and commercial audience.
