AEGOS/GRSG International Workshop on Geoscience Observations & Observing Systems

The AEGOS (African-European Georesources Observations System) project aims at setting-up the preparatory phase for the building of an information system containing and making accessible data and knowledge on African geological resources including mineral resources, raw material, groundwater and energy (georesources). This information is/has been collected through numerous initiatives by both African countries, regional, international and European organisations collectively, and is a unique archive of Africa related geoscientific observation data which primarily need to be shared with African partners. Developing capacity building activities in the domain of Earth observation in developing countries is a priority.

This joint AEGOS/GRSG international workshop on Geoscience Observations & Observing Systems aims to develop a strong dialogue between AEGOS and GEOSS (Global Earth Observation System of Systems). The workshop will be in three parts:

  1. Information on both GEO/GEOSS and AEGOS initiatives and presentation of the results of the AEGOS-GEOSS mapping excercise; assessing the current and potential of contribution of geology to the GEO Work Plan
  2. Presentation of existing observations and observation systems and their geological applications, dissemination of geoscience data via GeoNetCast system and participation of geoscience observing systems within GEOSS
  3. Presentation on new observations and observing systems and design of follow-up projects

This joint AEGOS/GRSG workshop takes place at The Geological Society of London, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London from 7 – 8 July 2010.
